Having
made a remarkable and significant mark in the world of music, United
Kingdom artiste with Nigerian parents, Patrick Chukwuem Okogwu, who is
popularly known as Tinie Tempah, is conquering the fashion world.
He is launching his own clothing line, Disturbing
London, a collaborative effort with street wear label, MH1. The
collection is an offshoot of his record label also called Disturbing
London, which he co-founded with his cousin and manager, Dumi. The men’s
wear fashion label, which is a surprise collection of graphic T-shirts,
sweats, chinos and aviator jackets, which Tinie himself calls urban
essentials, has the distinctive Disturbing London logo— a skull wearing a
crown.
The designs which are influenced by everything Tinie
feels passionate about— London, music and fashion— are a far cry from
his usual sharp tailoring. The dapper borderline camp accessories of bow
ties, silk scarves etc earned him the coveted prize of 2012’s most
stylish man, in GQ magazine’s best dressed men list.
In explaining the rationale behind the absence of
most of what made him to be adjudged trendy, the 23-year-old explained
that since he was only just starting out in fashion, it only made sense
for him to debut with the kind of things he would normally wear from
day- to-day since that was the kind of fashion he grew up on.
As opposed to what most people think, Tinie claims he
doesn’t wear suits every day and only does when going for an awards
ceremony. The clothing line has been described as one part ’80s
throwback; that is reinterpreted through the eyes of a new generation
that didn’t live through the era of stone-washing and shoulder pads, one
part geek chic, and 100 per cent style noteworthy. Even though he is
presently hard at work to produce his next album, Tinie has been working
non-stop, determined that Disturbing London will not only be amazing
but will be a reference point in male fashion in the not-too-distant
future.
