It
used to be for the beach. Some even came as bra top for inner wear. Now,
what is trending in high fashion is the comeback of the bra tops.
They are all over the
runway. They are back and in full swing. The bra top enables you to show
off your toned mid section. Not only is it versatile, it’s a fun and
flirty alternative piece to wear in hot days.
This latest trend first
made its entry last fall and it seemed as if every designer was showing
some sort of bra top in their Spring 2012 collections. At the New York
Fashion Week 2012, the trend emerged in full force when most of Proenza
Schouler’s collection spotted the bra top. At the Milan Fashion Week, it
was Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and Versace all showing the bandeau-like
top. Now, it has officially hit the streets.
The Paris Fashion Week 2012
was also not devoid of this trend. Some cute and sexy bras were spotted
on the runway by Versace, Nina Ricci, Donna Karan etc. While each
designer added their signature style to complement the look, staying
chic was the name of the game. Bra tops were accented with high-waisted
silhouettes.
Emilio Pucci, Prada, Victor
and Rolf and Versace incorporated the bandeau look in their collection.
With Prada’s matching crochet look, it was evident that bandeau is
looking to make its way off the beach and onto the street. While his
collection does flash some skin, they had a demure sweetness to it
that’s anything but vampy. Emilio Pucci and Versace in their designs,
took the mid-century idea and added the late 80s effect with neon and
subtle studding for an edgier effect.
Now that spring is approaching, many will
be faced with the dilemma- to bare or not to bare. When done right, it
says both coy and provocative. But at this moment, it says, ‘high
fashion!’ The secret of this look is keeping it classy rather than
trashy. Oftentimes, bra tops are paired with a high-wasted full skirt. A
more modest neckline with probably thick straps or even a small sleeve,
would not allow flashing much skin.
